Territorial Seed

Gardeners have been drawn to the Willamette Valley for its healthy, fertile soil and ample, clean water supplies. Territorial Seed Company found its niche nicely in amongst the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in the Cottage Grove area. Founded in 1979 by Steve Solomon, Territorial set out to improve people’s self-sufficiency and independence. Steve accomplished this by enabling gardeners to produce an abundance of good tasting fresh-from-the-garden food 12 months a year.

By 1985, Steve sold the company to current owners, Tom and Julie Johns, who now have successfully established the company as a premier seed supplier for the home gardener. Since setting its roots, Territorial has grown and blossomed into a national, mail order garden seed retailer with a catalog outlet store, 44-acre research and trial farm, downtown administrative offices and call center, and seed production facility all located in the Cottage Grove vicinity.

Territorial Seed Company’s growth and success is partially due to the availability of reasonably-priced, developed and undeveloped real estate in the area. With diverse real estate needs from certifiable organic farmland to industrial locations and a convenient corporate headquarters, Cottage Grove has proven to be an ideal home to the company. Convenience to a major interstate artery, I-5, and proximity to Eugene and Corvallis, which are both hubs of higher education, offers a healthy workforce of professionals as well as laborers to fuel the varied employment opportunities at Territorial.

Cottage Grove offers a family-friendly community with a well-developed infrastructure, supportive business environment and lots of room for growth. Territorial Seed Company sees great promise for its future in Cottage Grove.

For more than 30 years Pacific Yurts has maintained its status as the world’s leading yurt manufacturing company by continuously implementing technical and structural advancements, adding innovative options and maintaining its strong customer service commitment. This Cottage Grove company has won numerous awards, including the Industrial Fabrics Association International Achievement Award for new products, a productivity award for manufacturing excellence from the U.S. Senate, and State and Regional Exporter of the Year from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Today, Pacific Yurts can be found on nearly every continent in a diverse array of personal, business and government settings. They are used as campground rentals, ski huts, meeting halls, resort and vacation lodging, backyard room additions, personal retreats, health and fitness centers and much more. Pacific Yurts combine the best experiences of tent camping and cabin life; you can hear the comforting sounds of nature while remaining warm and cozy inside. The unique appeal of the yurt has greatly contributed to the economic success of many parks and campgrounds. For example, up and down Oregon’s Coast, Pacific Yurts provide cozy year-round accommodations that attract and protect visitors in all manner of weather.

Since its inception, Pacific Yurts has maintained a steadfast commitment to environmentally responsible business practices and giving back to the community. Indeed, the founding idea for the company was to help people get closer to nature while minimizing their impact on it. Pacific Yurts hand selects second-growth lumber from carefully managed forests, choosing the appropriate grade and length of boards for each yurt component to minimize waste during production. Sawdust and small wood trim pieces left over from the production process are recycled to local gardeners and crafters. The company has also recently begun using wind power to generate at least 25 percent of the electricity in its manufacturing facilities. Additional information about Pacific Yurts can be found at www.yurts.com.

Small town charm; cutting edge technology

Cottage Grove, Oregon has the charm of a small wild-west town but make no mistakes about it, this city is on the cutting edge with technology.  Downtown CG offers complimentary wireless Internet to all.  Anyone with a lap top can sit comfortably in any given business downtown and utilize the Cottage Grove wireless network.

The Cottage Grove library is another cutting edge attraction in the downtown area.  Recently the library was asked to  host the Visions of the Universe exhibit.  This world renown exhibit will be on display at 40 different libraries around the US with the Cottage Grove Library being the only Oregon library with such honors.

Here you could talk about the C.C. college….
